New HFAC Faculty Member (Fall 2007) We are delighted to announce that Dr. Carryl Baldwin will join the faculty as Assistant Professor in the Human Factors and Applied Cognition program. Dr. Baldwin joins us from Old Dominion University. She has research interests in auditory cognition, in-vehicle displays, and cognitive aging.

Welcome, Maria Kozhevnikov! (Summer 2006) We are delighted to add two new members to our group. Dr. Kozhevnikov has accepted one of our human factors faculty positions and will move to GMU in the summer of 2006. She joins us from Rutgers University and will be director of the Science of Learning Centers program at the National Science Foundation for 2006. Dr. Kozhevnikov's work uses a variety of methods including virtual reality and fMRI to study visuospatial imagery and individual differences in cognitive style.

Welcome, Jim Thompson! (Summer 2006) We also are thrilled to welcome Dr. Thompson, who will fill our cognitive neuroscience faculty opening. He will join our laboratory and hold a joint appointment in neuroscience with the Krasnow Institute for Advanced Study beginning in the summer of 2006. Dr. Thompson joins us from the Puce laboratory of the West Virginia University School of Medicine. His research uses methods such as event-related potentials and fMRI to investigate the neural basis of perception and social cognition.

We will miss you, Melissa & Ericka! (Summer 2006) Dr. Beck will be moving on this summer to accept an assistant professor position in the department of psychology at Louisiana State University. Ericka Rovira has accepted a position as assistant professor of engineering psychology in the department of behavioral sciences and leadership at the United States Military Academy at West Point. Congratulations, Melissa & Ericka!

New department chair from the ARCH lab. (Summer 2006) Dr. Boehm-Davis will take over the position of chair of the Department of Psychology beginning in the summer of 2006. Dr. Parasuraman will take over as director of the HFAC group.

Department approves tenure for two ARCH lab faculty. (Winter 2006) The psychology department has approved tenure for Drs. Kello and Peterson, pending approval from the university.

Chris Kello leads program at NSF. (current) Dr. Kello is currently director of the Perception, Action, and Cognition program of the Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences section of the National Science Foundation.

Debbie Boehm-Davis appointed to NRC committee. (Fall 2005) Dr. Boehm-Davis has been appointed to the National Research Council Committee on Human Factors.

Brandon Beltz elected to APA council. (Fall 2005) Brandon Beltz was selected to serve on the APA student science council to represent Cognitive Psychology.

Congratulations, student presenters! The following graduate students received prizes for their papers presented at recent conferences:
     - Katie McGarry and Ericka Rovira, Best Graduate Student Paper (Cognitive Engineering and Decision-Making group), 2005 HFES meeting.
     - Daragh Sibley, the Newell prize for best student paper, 2004 International Conference on Cognitive Modeling
     - Peter Squire, Best Graduate Student paper, 2005 APA Division 21 symposium.
