Bill is a first year doctoral student at George Mason University's Human Factors and Applied Cognition (HFAC) program. Bill earned his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Dayton in 2010, where he spent 3 years working in Dr. Susan Davis's Memory, Aesthetics, Attention and Perception (MAAP) lab conducting basic research in the field of cognitive psychology. In addition, starting in 2008, Bill was also working at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base with Dr. James Christensen, analyzing psychophysiological data and programming experiments.
Bill's focus centers on the nature of an individual's multi-tasking abilities with Dr. Deborah Boehm-Davis. Specifically, we are looking at whether age, culture, technological exposure and inclination to use technology play a role in multi-task performance. Similarly, Bill is also working with her and Nicole Werner on the effect of interruptions on tasks ranging from office-related tasks to medical tasks.
Bill also works with Dr. James Thompson on a project involving brain-computer interaction and spatial localization. Currently, the goal is to design a system such that we can classify an object that an individual is looking at and then communicate with a robotic hand to grasp the appropriate object.
